Publishing

As a designer, I have a love of beautiful books and writing. More importantly, I love ideas. I’m particularly drawn to what Arturo Escobar describes as the ‘internal cultural healing’ that is required if we are to overcome patriarchy and I share his belief in revitalising traditions and creating new ones. I love to design and publish books and publications that inspire other ways of being-knowing-&-doing. Books that add to the collective imaginary of what I call ‘otherwise cultures’. Here’s a few books that I’ve published, and a number I’ve been lucky enough to design for others.

A Ritual Turn

In this anthology of art and writing, each contributor circles around the meaning of the word ritual. Through their words we are offered a wide array of responses to the vital questions of living: who am I? To what or who do I belong to? And how to carry on?

This book was curated over the course of a year and designed with rapid resolve over a two week stay at a bush block in Woodend. 100 were printed. It’s the first book I’ve self-published.

Branch of Knowledge / Tree of Wisdom

Branch of Knowledge | Tree of Wisdom is a ritual to support and celebrate a young person’s rite of passage in their life-long journey of learning and growth. In this ritual you and your young person will head out to a natural site of choice and engage in a ceremony in which your young person is gifted with a collection of talismans, that will adorn a branch they have foraged from the forest, to muse on ideas of learning and growth and to acknowledge and celebrate their personal wisdom and sense of self.  These pages will guide you through all of the steps and elements needed to engage in the ritual.

This book was jointly published with Bard Lewry, an artist, poet and mother of two beautiful energetic boys.

Gather Together: Rituals for Cultural Renewal

This book was designed over the course of a year, in close collaboration with William Matheson. The design of the book takes inspiration from the diurnal rhythms of day and night. To compliment the narrative, I created a unique group of characters, to help readers navigate the book. There’s 15 illustrations of them enacting different scenes.
